The Northern Terriorty Top End Tour

Having travelled around the world and stepped on every continent except Antarctica (it’s on my list for next year!), I think I can modestly say I am well-travelled and know my way around most corners of the world. However, when it comes to my own country, I am nothing but a novice.  When in a conversation with other travellers, I cower in the corner when asked what areas of Australia I have visited. My answers only ever cover the East Coast of Australia and Victoria and in reality that is the extent of my travels across this Great Southern Land.

Taking photos in the Top End

So, when we were presented with an opportunity to travel to the Northern Territory on behalf of Tourism NT and Canon Australia we were over-joyed with excitement to finally be on our way to the ‘Top End’ and experience only what I have seen on tourism commercials. I mentioned the news to Elise after a long day at work and her furrowing frown instantly turned into a smile of joy and happiness and proceeded to tell me that she has dreamt of visiting the Northern Territory for a very long time. I must admit it has been on our radar for some time, but as with all things that are on your doorstep, you tend to leave them for another day. Finally, our ‘another day’ is fast approaching and we are going to explore one of the best parts of Australia.

Sense of Adventure

If you haven’t noticed we are a tad bit excited to be exploring the Northern Territory!  This trip is the perfect match for us and our adventurous side. We will be camping through some exquisite landscapes as well as having two professional landscape photographers with us. This means we are able to get first hand advice and photography tips each and everyday! It is my ultimate holiday! We will be using the latest Canon cameras available on this trip and I am truly excited about getting my hands on the new Canon 5D Mark III! I am going to be like a kid in a candy store and all my Christmases have come at once.

Canoeing in the Northern Territory

Did I mention how much I love Canon products!? I have own 4 Canon cameras over the years, a video camera and a variety of lenses to boot! In my opinion, I think they have selected the right man for the job in testing out all this Canon equipment in such a picturesque landscape like the Northern Territory.

The Trip

We arrive in Darwin on the morning of our first day and board a guided vehicle to the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. We will be viewing a number of natural landscapes like Rock art at Nourlanie, cruising along Yellow Water Billabong and trekking through gorges and natural waterfalls in Jim Jim.

Then from Kadadu we will be heading to Katherine a place that I have dreamt of visiting for many years. It is an area of wide expanses and it will be simply breath-taking to view this part of the world in person. We will be canoeing through ancient gorge systems and in search of sandy beaches and rock art along the way. We might be lucky and spot some Australian wildlife along the way.

We then return back to Darwin and will witness a real working cattle station and trek through the Umbrawarra Gorge and visit some of the most iconic pubs in Australia.

Sounds like a pretty good trip if I do say so myself and we can’t wait to bring you a little closer to the Northern Territory and maybe you might see it through our lens and find that it is somewhere you may want to visit in the future.

Who’s Going

We want you to come along for the ride and we can’t wait to bring you all the photos from our journey to the Top End and I am sure there will be a drunken story or two to tell you from around the camp fire! We are heading up there with 25 other media personnel and we are happy to be able to be sharing the trip with our good friends Craig from yTravelBlog and Megan from OnMyWayRTW. We will be sure to get up to some mischief and fun so keep checking back to find out all about the trip. We will be updating our social media networks, so connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+ before we leave for our trip.

You can find out more about the trip we are doing to the Top End at Tourism NT or if you would like to see what cameras we will be using check out Canon Australia.
