We didn’t really intend on staying a long time in Mexico. Initially we had only rented and paid for 4 weeks in our little cabana. However, 4 weeks eventually turned into 4 months. Partly because we enjoyed staying still for a while and partly because of the issues we were having with the relaunch of our website.
Aside from website problems, it wasn’t all that bad. We’d spend half the day working on articles, photos, design elements and besides, this was our office:
And the other half of the day we were here:
It was such a great lifestyle, but at the time, I don’t think I really appreicated it all that much. I became too spoilt in my surroundings. I’m not sure if I stopped to look around at exactly where I was working. So many people are stuck in cublicles all day, but at least here I was able to sit in the sun, watch birds feeding and then head down to the beach.
It was my first glimpse at what a truly location independent lifestyle could be like. Living somewhere beautiful, cheap, working online and having a good quality of life.
Even though I will be working as a primary school teacher in 2012 (going back to my old job and I can’t wait!!), the one thing I have learned from working in Mexico, is about how choose to work. I don’t want my job to rule my life. Of course, I love being a teacher and working with kids, but travelling as made me understand that there is more out there than just working, reports and marking homework.
I would rather spend my weeknights enjoying dinners with Anthony and my weekends out about in the sun. Our time in Tulum really made me appreciate what matters.
Who knows how I will go in 2012, but for now while it is rainy and grey in Sydney, I will sit and pretend I am here:

this looks like paradise!
It really was…so realxing!
This looks SO beautiful!
SO beautiful! Sometimes it’s easier to appreciate when you’re away, and I think what matters is what it taught you. Love that
Sooo pretty. I can see why everyone keeps recommending Tulum to us. Thanks fo sharing!
Tulum is much nicer but a lot more simple town than the other built up cities on the Yucatan coastline. The cenotes are simply amazing and we would go back in a heartbeat.
