Best English Destinations For A Lover’s Retreat

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, many couples throughout the UK will be on the lookout for the perfect place to go with their loved one, for a romantic getaway. Whist I love places like Edinburgh, Pembrokeshire and the Scottish Highlands for places to head off to on a romantic retreat, today I want to focus on the destinations which England can offer loved up couples. Whether you are a young couple looking to get away for a while, an experienced couple looking to rekindle your love, or simply two people in love that want to escape the world for a while, here are some of the best spots in England to do just that.

Robin Hood’s Bay

Located in the North York Moors National Park, Robin Hood’s Bay is a beautiful place for you and your partner to get away for a short while. This area is around 5 miles south of Whitby and 15 miles north of Scarborough, giving you some classic English seaside towns to visit should the fancy take you. If seclusion is what you are after then you can find that here too and find some accommodation in Robin Hood’s Bay which is close enough to the action, but secluded enough for that privacy that you are looking for.

Cornwall

Right at the south of England is the beautiful county of Cornwall, a place which almost appears like a country of its own given the large differences you’ll find here, compared with the rest of the United Kingdom. The climate here is notoriously better than the rest of the country and the county offers the perfect blend of thick forest areas with snug cottages, beachside resorts with spectacular scenery and coastal walks, as well as given you and your partner plenty of hidden coves and quaint fishing villages where you can pass your weekend hand in hand. Aside from the natural landscape, the food in this part of the world, especially the freshly caught seafood in places such as Padstow and St Ives, is some of the finest you will find in Europe, let alone the UK.

Northumberland

If it is seclusion that you are looking for then look no further than the remote county of Northumberland in north east England. Despite its close proximity to the cities of Newcastle and Gateshead, this green region makes you feel that you are miles away from anywhere. Throughout Northumberland there is much to explore whether you like to simply wander through fields, walk along the dunes of some of the nation’s finest beaches, or discover the rich history here with visits to the likes of Bamburgh Castle. Lovers must take a visit to Newbiggin-on-Sea where you will find the most delightful statue of two lovers staring out across the North Sea. Isolation, beauty and relaxation, the perfect romantic retreat.
