New Travel Experiences in Australia in 2016

Australia on paper is the spot-on example of a place you would want go and never ever come back. But is the real thing anything close to the hype surrounding it? We think yes!

Save for the distance from the rest of the world, Australia sports everything an adventurer wants to put at the top of their travel wish-list. You will be pardoned to think otherwise, especially keeping in mind most of the attractions are the work of the last 12 months, but you may never forgive yourself once you realize what exactly you’ve been missing.

Below is a list of the new travel experiences in Australia in 2016.

  1. Swimming with Humpback Whales in Western Australia

Late last year, the Australian government promised to introduce humpback whale swimming tours at Exmourth and Coral Bay in West Australia – a pledge that they have lived up to. There are only a handful of other places offering the same amenity you could think of: Queensland, Tonga and Mexico. It is thus a one-off experience that you still have a chance of being among the first people to savour.

  1. Field of Light Uluru

In what we can describe as the zenith of art, Uluru’s Field of Light which opened back in April has become a major source of tourist attraction in such a short period partly thanks to the fact that it’s closing down in March 2017. You still have a few more months to book a ticket and have a firsthand view of the “artificial milky way”

  1. Melbourne’s revamped bar scene

Also unofficially known as Australia’s small bar capital, Melbourne has been a new facelift as more than a dozen quirky new bars have set shop here. This includes specialities like the Whiskey bar Thundercats and China Rock ‘n’ Roll which are meant to cater to specific audiences.

With Heartbreaker, Thundercats Supper Club and Bad Shepherd Brewing Co officially joining the brimming bar space, you now have an array of small bars at your disposal to choose from.

  1. Noma the Restaurant

For the ten weeks Noma operated in Barangaroo, Sydney, it was the talk of the town and rightfully remained sold out throughout the period. While the restaurant has been defunct for a couple of weeks now, it’s still worthwhile to note that four-time winner of the world’s best restaurant was actually here!

  1. Transformation of the Great Barrier Reef

Since one of Australia’s coral reefs started showing signs of coral bleaching, all roads have been leading there. You can join the multitude of adventurers for a day or two of pure pleasure as just an ordinary tourist or as a volunteer researcher of the ongoing studies on the reef and marine life around it.

  1. The Sea Lake Sky Mirror

Just the other day, there was nothing worth a second glance at in the small town of Sea Lake in Mallee, Victoria. Thanks to the Sky Mirror – a reflection of the sky on the still waters of Lake Tyrell – the town has been attracting droves of tourists lately, and now there is life in the previously little-known godforsaken zone.
