Tips on Keeping Up With Your Sports Team Whilst Travelling

Travelling the world, experiencing new cultures and seeing spectacular sights is fantastic. But, wherever you are in the world and no matter how beautiful it maybe, if your team is playing that day you’ll be scrambling to find a way to watch them or find out what the score was.

I have lost count of the number of countries I have been in roaming the streets looking for a tv to watch the Saturday afternoon football. Sometimes it’s pretty much impossible to watch the game live because the time difference between home and where you are can be an absolute nightmare, no matter how much of a die hard fan you are!

I know I am not the only person that hates to be out of the sporting loop when travelling, so I put together a list of my 3 top tips to make sure you’re either watching the game or able to find out the score.

Sports news online

This one might seem obvious but with there being so many websites out there it’s difficult to know which one to use. BBC Sport has to be at the top of the list if you want up to date information, scores and news. You can also read the live text commentary if you’re unable to find a tv in town. Sometimes travel and sport can get a bit too much, can’t it? For my dose of satirical sports news I head to Lolfootball.com, I challenge you to read any of the articles there without laughing. These guys have absolutely nailed it, the satirical content they produce is so good that you actually think it could be true.

Find a decent bar

If there’s an Irish bar in town then there’s a pretty decent chance that they’ll be showing nearly every major sporting event. Let’s be honest, it’s difficult to go anywhere now without finding an Irish bar, which is a good thing if you’re a sports fan. If you can’t find a good bar then your second port of call should be one of the top hotels in town, ditch the flip flops and dress up a bit so they let you in! Football is such a far reaching sport that it will be difficult not to find a tv showing the top footy teams in action.

Stream it online

This is always the last resort for any sport fan, we all know how much of a minefield it can be trying to find a decent stream online even if modern technology is amazing. Beggars can’t be choosers though, so if all else fails try to find out the tv channel that is showing the game back home and search for a live stream – remember to keep your cool if the stream pauses at a crucial moment!
